Lotusflat

I'm not sure what's not clicking this year, but the first 36 hours of 'sphere have been a major disappointment.  Maybe my expectations -- our of us and out of others -- are just too high?

Only truly exciting news this week so far has been the partnership with OpenNTF.org.

I am so glad I didn't do the hair this year.  *sigh*

Comments

1 - Completely agree with you. I look forward for Xpages, the only main news on Notes-Domino offering.

2 - Well I don't know about disappointing. It's my first sphere so I don't know what to expect. Sure I would have liked a little more attention to Domino/Notes, but we just got 8.5 just a couple of weeks ago and there was a LOT of good stuff in that.

I'm glad that they didn't hold 8.5 until Lotusphere..

3 - You know I think it's this "we integrate with everything" push. I was hoping for some competitive aggression, and it's just not there.
I mean there's some cool, practical stuff - DDE, OpenNTF, xPages for Web, xPages for Notes, xPages for Mobile.
There's just no 'jolt' to give me a year's worth of adrenaline.

4 - Fair point, Craig. I've been using DDE and Xpages for months, so that's certainly not a conference event for me. The Xpages for Mobile is very cool stuff. And maybe part of the struggle is that the biggest announcement of the day: LotusLive, is really an announcement for the press, not for anyone who's actually attending Lotusphere. If you're already a Lotus customer, chances are that LotusLive isn't going to mean much to you for a while. And if you're a business partner, chances are that in the immediate future, it's success will threaten your business model. So it's not a great combination when you put them together.

5 - Where is the Domino next announcements? What big features are they working on? Any movement on native iPhone sync?

6 - Completely agree with you. I look forward for Xpages, the only main news on Notes-Domino offering.

7 - Ironic that some others feel differently Emoticon

8 - The product showcase floor is slow. My idle mind wants to see if I can reach you guys with a paper airplane.

9 - I am agreeing with Andrew - this is the best sphere in years. Conversations with customers are that they are loving what they see in 8.5. It is not new to you Nathan so maybe that is it. Or maybe your expectations don't align with Lotus's direction? (not saying that is a bad thing either). But the energy is way up over last year. At least to me.

10 - Hey Nathan,
Given you are there can you give us the inside scoop. Were there live people on stage for this year's OGS or was it a video replay of last years' with Alloy superimposed over the Atlantis slides and LotusLive in the place of Lotus Bluehouse!! I'm guessing the applause was not quite as loud this year when plans were (again) announced of an eclipse based LotusScript class editor for a future release of Notes. It sounds like they used the same detailed slides as last year to outline their strategy for LotusScript, Notes Client development, Domino.Doc and Lotus Workflow. (The ones with a black font on a black background and no audio).

11 - I think that the strategy for Workflow and Doc just doesn't fit well in a OGS. I think .Docs death is now official with both Quickr and FileNet being the successor (support until 2012 and support for Office 2007 files later in 2009 but no R8 version). I missed that announcement for Workflow but it went to IBM India (probably next to the SmartSuite department) a few years earlier than Doc.
@Nathan. Great to see that you still say what you think.

12 - I take it all back, bro. I take it all back.
