Murphy's Terminal
It's just after midnight here in the rainy city of Dallas. I've been at DFW for... 6 hours now. My flight was delayed first by inbound delays. Then by traffic. Then by weather. Then by an airport-wide security lockdown. And now they've announced that maintenance won't clear the plane to fly.
If I'm home before 4am, it'll be a surprise.
This wouldn't all be so bad if I were in the international terminal, and I could have run into the duty free store and picked up a bottle of scotch. But the airport bar just had last call.
I did, however, use the T-Mobile wireless connection here to VPN into a remote desktop in RTP, where I then connected to a new customer server in Kansas City, and migrated a Domino server to new hardware over the course of about four hours. Not bad, when you consider I had to change gates twice in that time.
But made a bit more difficult by the fact that apparently, DFW is the only airport in the world that expects you to PAY FOR LAPTOP ELECTRICITY. They really removed most of the power sockets from the wall, and put in pay terminals.
Fortunately, I'm dogged and relentless. Let me at 'em, sir!
Anyway, we'll see if American ponies up a free round of drinks on the plane or something to make up for the wait.
