Uninstalling Beta2

Since Notes Beta 3 is available, there's been a few scattered reports of people having trouble getting rid of their old install so that the new install works properly.  I had some similar headaches, too, and I've been through enough install/uninstalls at this point to have a pretty good idea of what to keep track of.  So, here's some tips on how to get Notes 8 properly scrubbed from your machine so you can get the latest beta install to work.  (note: this is all for Windows.  I haven't had a chance to dig into the Linux-based stuff just yet.)

First, if you've done a multi-user install before, check your Windows services.  You might have the "Lotus Multi-user Cleanup" service running, which can interfere with the other stuff we're about to do.  Also, keep your eyes peeled for the single-login service.  You'll want to disable both of these.

Next, REBOOT.  Yeah, you'd think that simply shutting things down and deleting files would be enough.  You'd be wrong.  So follow directions.

Once you're running again, you're going to need to wipe out some files.  One of the consequences of Notes 8 not being your father's Notes is that it's also not your father's Notes install.  There's a fair number of places you might need to look to find stuff that you need to delete...

Program Files\IBM\Lotus\
Documents and Settings\[Your username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Lotus\
Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lotus\
Documents and Settings\[Your username]\IBM\RCP
Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Universal\IBM\Notes8

Delete these folders altogether to have a Notes 8-free environment

Then... REBOOT.

Once you've restarted, you should be able to run the installation cleanly.

Comments

1 - Yeah, my first install on my laptop ran into some issues...

Installing over top of the beta 2 basic client on my work computer went through without any issues though.

2 - I didn't have to delete any of those files. I did have to uninstall and reboot, but it installed fine after that.

3 - Many thanks! Works for the Product Notes 8 release too!Emoticon

4 - Thanks Nathan. I had errors during the install process and no Widgets option under the prefs after installing 8.0.1 over the top of 8.0.0. Just ran the uninstall, rebooted and then it installed fine without needing to get into the folders.Emoticon
