More on the Workspace/Bookmark interface

Once again, in response to some stuff at Mary-Beth's I'm posting a screenshot.

I was proposing the idea of blurring the lines between the bookmark bar and the workspace, so the workspace would basically be a 2-dimensional rendition of the bookmark bar.  I was reminded there of the "Open as Workspace" option for the bookmarks today, which doesn't quite make for a complete replacement, but comes close.  Here's something closer to how I would envision a merger between the two working.  This would a consistent option, so once I elected to view my bookmark bar as a workspace, that's how Notes would come up next time.

Note that the bookmark bar itself is gone.  And that my subfolders in my bookmarks are represented as cascaded tabs (there should be better visual embedding to surround this, but I don't have all day to do the Photoshop work.)  Imagine all the tab headers were drag & drop enabled as well, so I can move sub-tabs around between various tabbed pages.

This would give the visual flexibility & large targets of the workspace, while offering the object flexibility of the bookmarks, since the Open as Workspace already handles the display of URLs and view/document bookmarks just fine.

1 - I'm wondering am I the only one who has problem perceiving information on Workspace? I thought it's something biological that should prevent people from quickly finding a text (DB title) between those squares.
As I mentioned in MBR blog, I would more gladly see that as list (ala Windows Explorer or any other file manager) with type-ahead feature enabled.

2 - Nathan, a Great user interface, much easier to navigate than the "Display as List" interface and capable of better scaling to more entities than the Windows Launcher paradigm that Mary Beth is advocating (although I think that we should have that as well).

Now to go several steps further and allow drag and drop of Windows Desktop Shortcuts into this interface, user defined background images and colors, option of transparent "chicklets", etc, it would really rock.

Another enhancement would be the support of "virtual folders" which are an extension of the multi-value categories feature in Notes, to allow the same bookmarks to be visible in multiple folders simultaniously, in that way the same bookmark can have multiple contexts in the workspace simultaneously, finally a warning when you delete a bookmark that it will delete all other instances of the bookmark at the same time, or option to only delete a single instance.
